Event Description The objective is to have team members take turns drawing pictures of scientific terms while their teammates try to guess the term. Each 3-person team will have 4 minutes to draw and guess 25 terms, with all teams getting the terms in the same order. All team members will follow a definite order of rotation to be the sketcher. Once a term is passed the team cannot return to it. Sketchers will draw on paper provided by the event officials, to be kept for later documentation if needed. The scientific terms used can be found in the index of scientific dictionaries and textbooks, and should represent a cross-sampling of all scientific disciplines.

Detailed Rules Timing begins when the 1 st sketcher is giving the 1 st term by the event supervisor. The supervisor will indicate when the correct term is guessed. Use of alphabet letters and any numbers are not allowed. This is to prevent teams from inventing codes. The sketcher may not speak unless he/she chooses to pass a term, and may not give any visual clues with their hands or body except for nodding yes or no. ‘Celebratory’ actions by the sketcher when a term is correctly guessed will be allowed. The number of words (not letters) may be represented with underlines “___ ___”.

Detailed Rules continued The only acceptable symbols are arrows, a minus sign (-) to shorten a word and a plus sign (+) to lengthen a word. Ex. In response to a guess of ‘refract’, a ‘+’ can be drawn to elicit a response of ‘refraction’. Symbols that represent the word given are also allowed, such a circle for the sun in the term solar eclipse. For two-word terms, the sketcher may write a complete word that has been correctly guessed, but not parts of a word. Forms of terms will not be accepted except for singulars or plurals. If a team violates any of the rules concerning the use of alphabets, numbers, verbal/visual clues etc, the term in play will be passed.

Scoring One point will be award for each term guessed correctly in the allotted time. The team identifying the most number of correct terms is declared the winner. If there is a tie, four tiebreakers may be used: First: The fewest terms passed. Second: The shortest completion time. Third: The longest string of correct terms. Fourth: The first term that a team correctly identified that the other team did not correctly identify.
