3 WHY PHHS for Staple Crops? – PHHS Strategy  WHY PHHS for Staple Crops?  In response to food insecurity: Need for improving post harvest management and infrastructure so as to meet market demand identified as key constraints to staple crop value chain development in Rwanda.  PHHS Strategy: 1. Facilitating market linkages: Ensuring producers, traders and other actors are linked to markets and have skills and infrastructure needed to take advantage of market timing and choice, thereby maximizing returns.

4 PHHS Strategy 2. Promoting investment: Identifying potential investors and facilitating access to finance so as to promote private-sector investment in PH infrastructure and management. PHHS Strategy

Strengthening underlying resources for Post Harvest (PH) management:  Training on improved conditioning and storage techniques,  Provision of adequate and appropriate conditioning and primary storage infrastructure,  Appropriate technology equipment (threshing, winnowing)  Disseminating new techniques and technologies and addressing harvest and PH handling and quality issues that affect losses prior to and during storage, PHHS Strategy
