Topic: Developing countries’ eLearning over WiMax
2
Basic Information Researcher: Researcher: Gerard Rushingabigwi Profession: Profession: Academic Staff in EEE Depertment of the University of Rwanda; a PhD Student in Electromagnetics and Microwave Technology at the University of Science and Technology of Chuina (USTC). Expected date of completion: Expected date of completion: June-July 2017
3
Some definitions eLearning eLearning stands for electronically- distributed/shared learning which is made possible if there is an adequate Internet connectivity.
4
Some definitions (Cont.) WiMax WiMax stands for Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access. It is based on the IEEE802.16 standards which were designed to operate between 2 to 11 GHz.
5
Problem Statement: numerous problems related to Internet coverage, cost, reliability, etc. In developing countries, notably rural areas and small towns, there are numerous problems related to Internet coverage, cost, reliability, etc. For example, even once Rwanda’s broadband infrastructure is widely available, there will be locations where connectivity is difficult to provide at affordable cost.
6
Steps to solve the problem: Step 1: To survey and exploit the best of WiMax in developing countries of Africa.
7
Step 2: o To try the implementation of WiMax-based mini projects in a target country of Rwanda; o Under this, to focus on WiMax antenna design and testing ( 天线设计与测试 ) so as to contribute to the optimal energy radiation for WiMax receivers and transceivers.
8
Step 3: To avail the results and technical reports that will be uploaded and published for the next generation's knowledge sharing.
9
Finally, providing distributed education The PhD research project addresses WiMax technology and solutions that it will bring to providing distributed education to a wide spread audience in the developing countries where there is no wireless Internet connection with sufficient quality.
10
Potential research directions Microwave Engineering’s RF ( 工程射频 ) is the main research direction during the time span of the project; Comparative Study of the new technologies to provide wireless Internet access networks (3G, broadband, WiMax, GPRS, 3GPP, 4G, LTE,5G, etc); Any other topics that will be suggested by the Supervisor.
