This is at a cost of £1.90. The menu is: Spicy pizza with chips, jacket potato, baked beans, and ice fruit smoothie. Week 2 menu will be served next week. Friday 21 st March 2014 Newsletter To be ready for : 28 th March 2014 Please talk to your child about the topic for their class. They will be writing about it on Friday and your discussions will really help. You could talk about the great ideas and words that they could use. Thank you. Reception Go for a walk in Corporation Park. Talk about the journey you go on around the park and talk about what you see. Year 1 Talk to a grown up about the RSPCA – can you find out more information about it? Year 2 Choose an animal that you would like to write about. Talk to your grown up about where it lives, what it likes to eat and what habitat it prefers. You will create a fact file for your animal. Year 3 Think carefully about the City States of Athens and Sparta. Where would you rather live? Discuss your reasons with an adult, why would your chosen City State be the best? Year 4 Think about all of the different instructions in your home. Talk about all the different kinds i.e., games and recipes. Look at how they are structured. Year 5 Talk to an adult about when they have been persuaded to do something that they did not want to do. Watch some TV adverts and observe what slogans are used. Year 6Discuss your favourite author and what they do that makes you like their stories. Talk through other authors you have read and compare them to your favourite author. Talk Homework: We feel that this is a really valuable activity and has a very positive impact on the quality of the ‘Friday Write’. There is no need to do any writing or bring in any paperwork. Halfords Bike Club Halfords are holding a free workshop to show 7 – 11 year olds the basics of things to check on their bike over Easter. All children must be accompanied by an adult. The activity will be taking place on Wednesday 16 th April 11am – 12.15pm at Halfords in Blackburn. Places are limited, so go to www.halfords.com/bikeclub to book your space. If you have a Children’s University passport, bring it to the workshop to get a stamp. You must book online prior to the activity. Places are strictly limited and participants must bring their email confirmation with them in order to be able to take part. All children must be accompanied by a responsible adult for the duration of the workshop. www.halfords.com/bikeclub Breakfast Club Children are welcome to attend Breakfast Club from 8:00am every morning. Breakfast club is £1 per child per day and everyone is welcome. Tuesday Treat next week will be ‘Croissants’. Clubs Please note next week is the last week of clubs for this term. All Children’s University members must hand their passports into the school office by next Thursday 27 th March 2014. Those who are going on the trip to Manchester at the weekend must still bring it with them on Sunday and they will then be kept until they have been stamped for the clubs Photographs If you would like to purchase your child’s school photo, please can all orders be in school by Wednesday 26 th March. Thank you. Sport’s Relief 2014 Thank you to all of you for sponsoring your child in their Sports Relief Challenge. All the children have enjoyed completing their tasks during the week. We are overwhelmed with how much money has come in already. If you have not already done so, can you please return sponsorship money to school by Monday 24 th March. Thank you.

Well done to all of you. Teller of the Week All of our Tellers this week have done a wonderful job of letting the school know who the Gold Book winners were in their class. The ‘Teller of the Week’ this week goes to Oliver Haworth in Reception. Well done Oliver! Reading Egg Award this week goes to Year 4. Well done! Punctuality It is important for children to attend school on time to allow them to settle into class and have the best start to their school day without disruption. Each week we will be looking at the class that has had the best punctuality and they will be awarded with a certificate and trophy. The Punctuality Award this week goes to Year 6. Well done! House Point winners this week are Emeralds. Well done! Don’t forget Grandparent’s Breakfast Club on Wednesday 2 nd April……. At Sacred Heart this week… Key stage one had a visit from the Donkey Sanctuary. Year 1 had a visit from the Guide Dog. Year 6 were visited by Blackburn Rovers player Jason Lowe as part of the Kick Out campaign, which was photographed by the LET. Year 5 had a visit from Miss Sweetmore’s Grandma to talk about evacuation during World War 2. Year 4 had their drumming assembly Thank you to all who attended.
