EDU702 : Design Seminar/ Ethnographic Design Problem Statement Research Questions Limitations & Significance Background Literature Review Methodology Q & A To what extend does Facebook been used for learning and education by students? In what ways does Facebook support teaching and learning? What activities are occurring while students engage with Facebook? What are the impacts of Facebook engagement towards future development in schools education ? Are Facebook disrupting the school education?

EDU702 : Design Seminar/ Ethnographic Design Problem Statement Research Questions Limitations & Significance Background Literature Review Methodology Q & A Limitations Dangers of interacting with strangers clouds general guidelines for safety although their intentions are honorable. The issue of confidentiality and the blurred line between privacy and public settings on the Facebook present challengers to ethnographers. Significance To Researcher: 1. To fulfil the requirement in completing the M.Ed. Visual Art Education. 2. To provides knowledge if Facebook is useful or benefit to student in the future.

EDU702 : Design Seminar/ Ethnographic Design Problem Statement Research Questions Limitations & Significance Background Literature Review Methodology Q & A To School / Teacher: 1. To determine whether Facebook can be used in school during lessons or it can be part of the lessons. 2. To help teachers, students and school administrators interm of changing the perception if Facebook gives impact to education. To Participants: 1.Giving acknowledgement to them about new styles of learning. 2. To differentiate either Facebook is benefit to them in getting knowledge. 3. EDU702 : Design Seminar/ Ethnographic Design Problem Statement Research Questions Limitations & Significance Background Literature Review Methodology Q & A Facebook is viewed as a cognitive tools, also as are recognized as influencing and mediating new patterns of thought and mental functioning (Salomon & Perkins, 1998; Wertsch & Rupert, 1993). Also, the use of cognitive tools acculturates one into society and, in turn, changes society through the ideas and ways of thinking enabled by that tool (Putnam & Borko, 2000).

EDU702 : Design Seminar/ Ethnographic Design Problem Statement Research Questions Limitations & Significance Background Literature Review Methodology Q & A Ethnography Design Types of studies: descriptive Research design : both anthropological and virtual ethnography ( experience with them for 3 month) A qualitative research project where the purpose is to provide a detailed, in-depth description of everyday life and practice. Ethnographers will immerse themselves in the community that they wish to study, and become familiar with the people in that community, and the practices that they undertake in everyday life. Virtual ethnography is the process of conducting and constructing an ethnography using the virtual, online environment as the site of the research. Anthropological ethnography that occurs “in real life” is conducted to detail the experiences of people in specific cultural milieu, a traditional ethnography.

EDU702 : Design Seminar/ Ethnographic Design Problem Statement Research Questions Limitations & Significance Background Literature Review Methodology Q & A If Facebook play a role in formal schooling, then its quintessential nature may need to remain unfettered. We cannot predict the influence of new technologies on students behavior in 5 years’ time. Facebook may corrupt school learning, promoting an anarchy that may be inimical to school as a center of knowledge exchange. Or Facebook might be transformed, tamed, and safe for education.
