Marketing your JISC e-books for FE content
2
Step 1 – Highlight individual titles To copy a URL for an individual title, just search for the title name, then copy and paste the URL at the top
3
Step 2 – Include book jacket images To add a graphic of a book jacket cover, right click on the cover and copy/paste, or save it to your PC to use as required
4
Using results from Step 1 and 2 Enter the individual e-book titles on your VLE Create A-Z lists of the titles Split these up by specific subject areas Use the links in newsletters to promote specific titles Or department emails around faculty staff to raise awareness of available titles Always include book jacket images where possible to appeal to people’s visual awareness!
5
Step 3 – Copy the URL to search results
6
Using results from Step 3 Links to a specific search always provides up to date results for your users. Really useful as new content is added to your collection Send these pre-defined searches to users on specific courses To faculty staff to help educate them on titles available in their subjects Post on subject areas in your VLE to help start students off with a specific search for their courses Use the button to produce excel lists and circulate to appropriate staff and students
7
Step 4 – Using your Usage Reports
8
Using results from Step 4 Use your usage statistics to help promote titles: – Run a title activity report each month, sort by usage and have a ‘top 10 titles this month’ section on your website/VLE – Include ‘category’ on the report and create a top titles used list by subject area
9
Other possible ideas: Showcase a “book of the month” Highlight any new titles added to your collection Use resources created by ebrary and JISC: ebrary: http://www.ebrary.com/corp/training.jsphttp://www.ebrary.com/corp/training.jsp JISC: http://fe.jiscebooksproject.org/information-for-librarians/resources/http://fe.jiscebooksproject.org/information-for-librarians/resources/ Any media studies students? – Get their tutors to set projects on promoting the e-books via flyers or short promotional videos! Use QR codes displayed in the library or around the college to create interest and intrigue!
10
QR codes One site: http://qrcode.kaywa.com/http://qrcode.kaywa.com/ Use the URL of a book title (Step 1) Generate the Image (QR code) -print and put up around the library Scan the code with your phone (and correct application) and jump straight to the programmed URL!
