2 Preliminaries  In your notebooks, draft at least 5 sentences about how accurate first impressions usually are. 10 classwork pts.

3 Objectives:  The students will be able to engage in critical reading using the P-R-R strategy.  The students will be able to define what synonyms and antonyms are.  The students will be able to write journal entries of at least 50 words.

4 Focus Lesson: “…Rich”  Small Groups  Divide into pairs or groups of 3.  Preview pp. 31-36 in Emotions magazine.  Write the answers to the following in your notebooks:  Is the selection fiction or non-fiction? How do you know?  What do the photographs and illustrations tell you about the kind of information you will learn about?  Take turns reading using your “6-inch voices.”  Independent Practice: complete pp. 19 and 20 of your journals.
