Preliminaries In your notebooks, draft at least 5 sentences about how accurate first impressions usually are. 10 classwork pts.

Objectives: The students will be able to engage in critical reading using the P-R-R strategy. The students will be able to define what synonyms and antonyms are. The students will be able to write journal entries of at least 50 words.

Focus Lesson: “…Rich” Small Groups Divide into pairs or groups of 3. Preview pp. 31-36 in Emotions magazine. Write the answers to the following in your notebooks: Is the selection fiction or non-fiction? How do you know? What do the photographs and illustrations tell you about the kind of information you will learn about? Take turns reading using your “6-inch voices.” Independent Practice: complete pp. 19 and 20 of your journals.
