First Law of Motion This law is often called “The Law of Inertia". “An object at rest will remain at rest unless acted on by an unbalanced force. An object in motion continues in motion with the same speed and in the same direction unless acted upon by an unbalanced force.”

What it means: If something isn't moving, it'll stay still. If it is moving, it'll keep moving, unless a force like gravity, friction, or air resistance (among the more common forces) acts upon it and thus changes it’s direction or speed (velocity).

Second Law of Motion “ Acceleration is produced when a force acts on a mass. The greater the mass (of the object being accelerated) the greater the amount of force needed (to accelerate the object). FORCE = MASS times ACCELERATION

What it means: The amount of force (power, strength) an object has is found out by multiplying that object's mass (usually in grams) by its acceleration. The second law is important because it is quantitative. Which means it can be proven by mathematical facts (numbers).

Third Law of Motion “ For every action there is an equal and opposite re-action.”

What it means: If you and a friend are standing on ice (with ice skates on) and you push your friend (the action), two things happen: The friend you push is moved in the direction you pushed them (the equal reaction) and you are pushed away (the opposite reaction).
