Underground Networks

Current System Wichita ~180 Network Transformers Not including spot network transformers Topeka 26 Network Transformers Rest of Topeka downtown served from one feed, with backup feed available

Future of Network Maintain current size Continue to add new customers in downtown Wichita and Topeka to network Add communications Utilizing ETI RCMs

Adding Communications Difficult to predict exact load flows in a secondary network Addition of communications devices allows the network to be monitored via SCADA

ETI Remote Communication Modules Devices used to monitor power flow from network protectors Speaks DNP3 without needing translator In the future, we will install communicating relays in network protectors Communicating relays will perform the same communications functions as RCMs without the need for separate RCM box

Adding Communications Original plan was to add ETI Remote Communication Modules Information sent back to SCADA system via Radius PDR Radios Difficult to maintain line-of-sight from downtown Wichita to receiving antennae Completed installation on 20 Vault Transformers
