A Slave who escaped slavery and became a prominent abolitionist He teamed up with William L Garrison, speaking out against slavery He formed his own abolitionist newspaper - The North Star

Rural / Field Slaves’ lives were more difficult because their duties were more labor intensive Urban slaves’ lives were better because they were better clothed, fed and taken care of. They also worked more skilled jobs – Black smiths, Artisans, Factory Jobs.

A slave who thought he was chosen by God to lead his people to freedom. He led a revolt or a rebellion, in which he and his followers killed almost 60 whites. His group was run down and killed. Also Turner was captured and hung. This led to a growing paranoia of Southerners towards slaves and abolitionist
