EEA Workshop on climate change adaptation platforms (23 June 2014) eea.europa.eu Overview on user feedback (2013-2015) User groupsSummary of feedback Across all user groupsVery valuable content, but not user friendly enough National level users with experience in adaptation policy Climate-ADAPT already supported national/sub-national level adaptation policy and action Specific sections very helpful (e. g., country profiles, European level vulnerability maps) Information on limits and boundaries of information needed Climate change, impacts, and vulnerability maps helpful, but high resolution not necessary Case studies very helpful, but need for best practice standards Clarify links to climate services and disaster risk reduction platforms National level users with less experience in adaptation policy Content too complex Drought/heat related information not sufficiently represented Information from Eastern and Southern European countries not sufficiently represented City/regional level usersInformation in national languages needed Scientific communityInformation not fully up-to-date

EEA Workshop on climate change adaptation platforms (23 June 2014) eea.europa.eu Addressing feedback: Climate-ADAPT progress 2014-2015 DG CLIMA Urban AST launched Time Series tool for climate data (developed by JRC) Tools and Software functionalities Results of DG CLIMA funded projects (e.g. Adaptation at regional levels) Content Improvement Conferences (e. G. CIRCLE2 Adaptation frontiers) Workshops (e. g. ECRAN) Dissemination

EEA Workshop on climate change adaptation platforms (23 June 2014) eea.europa.eu Addressing feedback: Climate-ADAPT progress 2014-2015 EEA, supported by ETC/CCA Revision of and improvement of coverage of case studies, sucessful support for external case study submissions Improvement of adaptation options Content update Database updated according to criteria Retrospective adjustment of db to new sector „urban“ Continously improved QA/QS process Database Urban vulnerability maps New Map viewer Enhanced tools
6
EEA Workshop on climate change adaptation platforms (23 June 2014) eea.europa.eu Addressing feedback: Climate-ADAPT progress 2014-2015 EEA, supported by ETC/CCA Conferences and workshops (ECCA 2015) Bimonthly newsletter: first issue January 2015 dissemination Standard Operational Procedures (SOP) updated according to lessons learned Efficiency of platform management Collection and synopsis of user feedback Translation of user feedback into new/improved features development Intensified exchange with users and contributors (webinar series started) User feedback
7
EEA Workshop on climate change adaptation platforms (23 June 2014) eea.europa.eu Progress to date: Example Urban AST Launched on 14 October 2014 in Brussels (Mayors Adapt signatory event) very detailed guidance, consulted with stakeholders
8
EEA Workshop on climate change adaptation platforms (23 June 2014) eea.europa.eu New tool : Urban vulnerability maps Launch: 09 June 2015 (Resilient cities conference, Bonn) Interactive maps based on European data urban specific climatic threats: heat waves, floods, water scarcity and droughts, forest fires maps on exposure, sensitivity, response indices
9
EEA Workshop on climate change adaptation platforms (23 June 2014) eea.europa.eu New tool : Time series tool – queury by point
10
EEA Workshop on climate change adaptation platforms (23 June 2014) eea.europa.eu Improved tools: New map viewer Improvement of existing map viewer: Better navigation Easy access to the data sources Better visualisation of the data
11
EEA Workshop on climate change adaptation platforms (23 June 2014) eea.europa.eu Improved content: case studies Habitat restoration in the Ebro Delta - Spain Danube Green Corridor Currently Climate-ADAPT includes 64 case studies and 10 additional case studies are under development Among the 74, 40 cases can be categorized as “new” These have been recently developed (2013-2015); the great majority (if not all) of the fields of the metadata sheets of these case studies have been properly completed
12
EEA Workshop on climate change adaptation platforms (23 June 2014) eea.europa.eu case studies coverage and gaps High number of Coastal Areas case studies The distribution of “new” case studies is more balanced Major gaps: Health, Marine and Fisheries and Financial sectors Flooding and Sea Level Rise are the most frequent impacts Minor gap: Water Scarcity Major gaps: Ice and Snow related impacts Minor gaps: Baltic Sea and Atlantic Coast (new case studies) Major gaps: Black Sea and Alpine Space 25 countries (over 41) are represented by at least a case study Depoldering the Hedwige and Prosper polders Belgium and Netherlands
13
EEA Workshop on climate change adaptation platforms (23 June 2014) eea.europa.eu Addressing user feedback: Improvement of content Adaptation options more user friendly: Range of adaptation options adapted to advanded state of adaptation knowledge and experience language adapted to capabilities of users less experienced in adaptation Improved content (e. g. marine options) based on results of a large EU project
