2 Origin of Britain... The first population of England was... CELTS. In prehistory Britain wasn’t an island. It become an island about 50 century B.C. The old british population was called Celts, they arrived from Europe across the english channel and for a long time weren’t any new arrivals.

3 Typical Celts house Celts lived in small farms with animals. They grew crops and hunted. The typical celtic house looks likes a thatched long cabin.

4 Druids Celts worshipped gods and goddeses. Their priests were called DRUIDS DRUIDS. Irish,Scottish and Welsh. Celtic tradition live on in our culture today by their descendant:Irish,Scottish and Welsh.

5 The most important monuments are: Stonehenge and Hadrian’s wall

6 Stonehenge Stonehenge is the most important prehistoric site in Britain We don’t know if it was... 1.A place where you can observ star and planets 2.An area where tribes assembled 3.A temple for the adoration of the sun THE MOST ANCIENT ORDER OF DRUIDS Meets at stonehenge every year at down on midsummer’s day and performs ancient mystic rites around the stones.

7 Н adrian’s wall Hadrian’s wall is an important roman archeological site. It was build to stop the schottish tribes coming from England.

8 When romans arrived to Britain... Roman introduce towns. British people followed the roman way of life. The Romans gave the name Britain to the country, they come to Britain in 55 B.C., led by Julius Caesar. The romans stayed for almost 400 years. The romans built roads. Roman roads are long and straight and we still use them today. They had clean waters, acqueduct and bath.

9 When romans arrived to Britain Romans built a bridge and a town called Londinium other important towns take their name from the latin word Castra (Chester, Doncaster..) Many english words come from latin (Dentist). Londinium

10 Roman governament... They brought a system of government to the whole country.

11 Other population of Britain When the roman empire began to collapse the romans left Britain. The island was conquered by: Angle Saxon,Vikings and Normans.

12 1 Angle Saxon Angle Saxon were a tribes coming from the north of Germany. They called the newly-conquered territory: ANGLE LAND then England.

13 2 Vikings The hero of the resistance against the Angle Saxon was: KING ARTHUR After the Angle Saxon arrived the vikings. They mixed with the Angle Saxon.

14 3 Normans Normans came in 1066 from France. William Duke acrossed the channel with is army and defeated the Angle Saxon in the battle of Hasting. was called the Conquered They were the last people who conquered England

15 The road to democracy In medieval times kings ruled with absolute power. Magna carta was signed in 1215 by John Lackland, so Britain became a constitutional monarchy.Magna Carta is a document wich limited power of king. King John was called Lackland because during his reing England lost territories in France. Resistance of people to Lackland is famous by the legends of Robin Hood and Ivanhoe

16 Henry the eighth Henry the VIII had six wives: Two died. Two divorce. One died after she had given him a son called Edward. One survived him.

17 Britain became protestant because the pope didn’t want to give Henry divorce. So Henry declared the end of papal power. One of Henry successors was Elisabeth I,a great queen. During her reing England became a power. Rival of England was Spain. Capitain of England was Sir Drake How britain became protestant
