3 Keys to a Successful Performance Objective Meeting Three simple keys to making every meeting count:  Key 1: Get Ready!  Key 2: Fit Your Goals Together!  Key 3: End in Agreement! 3

4 Key 1: Get Ready! Tips for getting ready:  Set the time and the place in advance.  Create a positive atmosphere.  Identify what you want to accomplish. 4

5 5 Ask Questions Two types of questions: Use open-ended questions to help clarify and explore each objective.  Open-ended questions: Can’t be answered yes or no Encourages the employee to give more information  Close-ended questions: Can be answered yes or no Doesn’t require clarification

6 Key 2: Fit Your Goals Together!  If your goals and the employee's match… …make them part of the employee's goals for the year. But what if the goals don’t fit together? Compare goals: 6

7 Key 2: Fit Your Goals Together! Compare goals: Employee’s Goal:Take additional training courses. Manager’s Goal:Improve service levels throughout team. Company’s Goal:85% of customer calls answered within 30 seconds. Tie the goals together:  Find a Call Service Skills course for the employee to attend. Collaborate on a new goal:  After completing a Call Service Skills course the employee will demonstrate a 5% increase in service level. 7
