Introduction Two broadband supercontinuum sources Jibe- white light continuum generator (T:Sapphire laser) Cannon- based on ultrafast fiber laser source

Introduction The generation of broadband supercontinuum spectra by injection of high-power ultrashort pulses into nonlinear optical media has been a subject of intensive research When a high-intensity ultrashort pulse is focused into a transparent medium, a white- light continuum ranging from ultraviolet to infrared is generated

Applications optical parametric amplification an optical metrology an optical coherence tomography materials characterization pump-probe measurements

Kerr effect n(I)=n 0 + n 2 I+… n 0 - normal reflective index of the medium n 2 - the nonlinear reflective index Optical phase: ωL n/c

E(t) cos (ωt-kx) - electic field of a laser pulse k= ωn/c –wavenumber Kerr effect E(t) cos((ω+ ξ t)t - kx) Taylor expansion around the peak of the ultrafast pulse: ξ - depends on the nonlinear refractive index, the pulse width, peak of power and distance travelled
