API S64 Scope This standard is intended to provide information on the design, installation, maintenance, testing, and operation of the diverter system and associated components. It will also provide a general overview of operating procedures. This document will change from a Recommended Practice to a Standard to both allow the inclusion of the design details and also to give more ‘weight’ to the maintenance, testing and operation requirements.
4
Diverter System Design This standard is intended to provide information on the design, installation, maintenance, testing, and operation of the diverter system and associated components. There has not been any prior guidance on the design of a diverter system from API. We are correcting this anomaly with the new edition of this document.
5
Diverter System Installation This standard is intended to provide information on the design, installation, maintenance, testing, and operation of the diverter system and associated components. Installation is also closely associated with design and selection as it will cover pipe sizes, routing, targets, bends, supports, etc.
6
Diverter System Maintenance This standard is intended to provide information on the design, installation, maintenance, testing, and operation of the diverter system and associated components. Maintenance shall be performed every 90 days, after each well, or in accordance with documented equipment owners reliability data, whichever is greater. A Product History File shall be kept for each major component.
7
Diverter System Testing This standard is intended to provide information on the design, selection, installation, maintenance, testing, and operation of the diverter system and associated components. Function testing will follow the frequencies prescribed by API S53. Pressure and flow testing are being discussed. This is not a pressure controlling system. – Do we need to pressure test? – What exactly would we test? – When would we test? Flow testing could cause pollution.
8
Diverter System Operation This standard is intended to provide information on the design, selection, installation, maintenance, testing, and operation of the diverter system and associated components. Suggested operating procedures will include planning and training topics.
9
Diverter Control System We have discussed the control system requirements with our API 16D colleagues to the point where API S64 will simply refer to API 16D 3 rd Edition for the control requirements.

Moving forward……. We are still focusing on floating rig use. We will review the completed document to see what, if anything, contradicts or conflicts from a land or jack-up perspective. The volume of such contradictions/conflicts will help us determine whether we need a second document. 10
