3 Characteristics Shape: Coccus Gram Stain: Negative Membrane made of Lipopolysaccharides Obligate Aerobe Heterotrophic Reproduces through Binary Fission Classified as a Diplococcal Bacteria Not Mobile

4 Diseases Causes Meningococcal disease or Meningitis Occurs when Neisseria Meningitidis causes inflammation of brain tissue and spinal cord Can cause pneumonia if Neisseria Meningitidis infects the lungs 10% of all patients don’t survive Patients are mostly African Americans

5 Treatment Meningococcal can be treated with Antibiotics Antibiotics such as: Penicillin G or Ceftriaxone
