Characteristics Shape: Coccus Gram Stain: Negative Membrane made of Lipopolysaccharides Obligate Aerobe Heterotrophic Reproduces through Binary Fission Classified as a Diplococcal Bacteria Not Mobile

Diseases Causes Meningococcal disease or Meningitis Occurs when Neisseria Meningitidis causes inflammation of brain tissue and spinal cord Can cause pneumonia if Neisseria Meningitidis infects the lungs 10% of all patients don’t survive Patients are mostly African Americans

Treatment Meningococcal can be treated with Antibiotics Antibiotics such as: Penicillin G or Ceftriaxone
