When September 10-25 th 1989 Hit U.S. Virgin Islands on Sept. 17 Hugo blew into Charleston, S.C., on the evening of Sept. 21

Characteristics & Path Category 5 Max winds up to 160mph Minimum Pressure 918mb Hurricane’s Path Tropical Depression- Cape Verde Islands Hurricane- Leeward Islands Turned W-NW and slowed due to low-pressure North of Puerto Rico and weakened the storm – Struck Guadeloupe – Accelerated over Puerto Rico Turned N-NW due to upper cyclone off Georgia Moved Inland Weakened to tropical storm over Charlotte NC and passed quickly over Virginia, West Virginia, Ohio, and Pennsylvania. By 22 nd it was an extra tropical storm.
