13 Name of religious Tradition_____________________ The religious ceremony I have chosen is a Roman Catholic Baptism. Baptism is a rite of passage, it is an important marked religious stage. Infant Baptism will usually take place early on in a babies life. This is because parents wish their child to become a member of the Christian church [ belong] and to give their baby a name [identity]. Christians believe it washes away initial sin / cleanses their soul. The Baptism takes place on a Sunday, in a church, usually at the font. There are many people present at the ceremony. The priest/vicar/ celebrant, who takes the ceremony, the parents, Godparents, family & friends. The priest has a number of duties to perform. Oil and water are used to represent washing & cleansing the babies sins. The water is poured onto the babies head three times and the oil is rubbed on the chest & once on the head. The Godparents are responsible for the babies spiritual upbringing. They make promises to do this for the baby. Parents often dress their baby in a white garment to represent purity. Always remember to write in the religion ! Christianity Teacher may use this suggested answer as guidance when pupils are assessing
