3 Mascalls has approximately 300 computers and 150 laptops available to pupils. We are committed to developing ICT technology to maximise the teaching and learning of students. As well as 5 large computer teaching rooms, complete with interactive boards which cater for classes of 30-45 students each, there are clusters of computers and laptops in many other parts of the school, including Science, Maths, Technology, the Library and Learning Support Department. 6 To promote a challenging, positive and welcoming learning environment, enabling all learners to succeed as independently as they are able. To enable all learners to fulfil their potential to the best of their ability, by providing interesting and motivating lessons; Students should then be able to develop creativity by exploring new concepts and taking risks; thus raising the stakes throughout life. 10 GTP ICT Specialist Session Friday 20th March 2009 Planning Time Plan collaboratively with colleagues and split sections of SOW between the whole department Poor Student Behaviour Could be as a result of boredom. Possibly an interactive and fun starter will get them engaged and therefore their behaviour will improve Lack of Experience Possibly regarding group work etc. Observe other colleagues in the dept teach the same task. Discuss positives and negatives Take a Chance! Lack of Resources You could create them, the dept could fund them, as a dept you could collaboratively create / find

16 These should be clear and unambiguous Aims – these point students in the right direction but do not tell you how to get there. e.g. ”To develop a knowledge and understanding of ……….” Learning objectives/outcomes – these are detailed methods of carrying out the aims. Global Dimensions How can we use video to change people’s attitudes and actions? Each Unit has a “BIG QUESTION” GTP ICT Specialist Session Friday 20th March 2009 Identity & Cultural Diversity How can we use the Internet to create a more tolerant global society?

24 Technological Change Pupils have a basic introduction to the school ICT network and using Photoshop design a computer that will be available in the year 3000. Healthy Lifestyles Pupils create a questionnaire to find out what music makes people feel good. Pupils then use Audacity to create an audio clip to promote well being and a healthy lifestyle. Enterprise Pupils will setup a theme park and will setup and use a spreadsheet to make good business decisions. Global Dimensions Pupils will create a video using Windows Movie Maker to save an endangered species of their choice. Identity & Cultural Diversity Pupils will create a website celebrating the cultural diversity of pupils at Mascalls school. These units are aimed at meeting the needs of the new Curriculum, whilst developing personal learning and thinking skills within students. GTP ICT Specialist Session Friday 20th March 2009
