Scarlet Ibis Read Scarlet Ibis by James Hurst closely and analytically. Make sure to annotate the story as you go along highlighter or not the annotations are the important part. I prefer them in the margins and complete sentences. Questions - Multiple Levels of Questions - Starting with “I wonder…?” Comments - Opinion on the text - Starting with “I think…” Connections - To Text, To Self, to World - Starting off with “I Know…” or “This reminds me of…” After you are finished briefly summarize the story in your notebook. If you still have time then you should read your outside reading book.

Scarlet Ibis - Discussion
Role Audience Format Topic Doing? Defense Attorney or Prosecuting Attorney Jury Opening and/or Closing Arguments at a Murder Trial How responsible for Doodle's death was the Brother? Argue/Debate I will assign you the role of either a prosecuting attorney or a defense attorney and prepare persuasive speeches for the jury in regards to the guilt or innocence of the narrator, Brother. YOUR job will be to gather details from the text that revolve around the two main characters and the details which support the symbolic imagery of the story. YOU are essentially lawyers gathering evidence, the text should become something you delve into when reading so that you don’t miss anything of importance IN COMPUTER LAB TODAY – Please type of your supporting pieces of evidence in a word document. Remember to acknowledge the counter argument. KEEP IN MIND your persuasive speech is what will be graded not what is written. Homework: Research Opening or closing arguments in the court of law and come up with a proper way to introduce yourself to the jury.

Great Fear Before The Crucible: Read The Great Fear starting on page 199 Define Communism - use the American Government Books - SHARE What is a witch hunt? Define and explain. What causes a witch hunt? What were the McCarthy hearing? Think about a time that you have been accused of doing something that you didn’t do, or of someone else you know of who was falsely accused. How did you feel about the accusation? Why do you think it was made? What did you do about it? Was it ever disproven? If so, how? Now write a paragraph describing this event, its causes and effects, and how it made you feel. When you finish with everything you can either work on your essay on one of the computers or read your outside reading book :)
