3 People have the opportunity to experience, learn, understand, as well as gain respect for traditional and contemporary cultural activities, including: 3.1.1 One’s own cultural heritage; 3.1.2 Other people’s cultural heritage; and 3.1.3 The heritage of Saskatchewan and the province’s shared sense of place. END 3.1

4 People have the opportunity to create, present and/or share traditional and contemporary cultural expressions, experiences and/or activities, including: END 3.2

5 3.2.1 One’s personal cultural expressions, experiences and/or activities; 3.2.2 New and emerging cultural expressions, experiences and/or activities; 3.2.3 Cross-cultural expressions, experience and/or activities. END 3.2

6 Cultural activities and experiences are inclusive. 3.3.1 People have an opportunity to be involved in supporting a diversity of cultural activity through: a) Leadership roles b) Decision-making opportunities; and c) Capacity-building roles END 3.3

7 1. SaskCulture provides support to Saskatchewan communities and cultural organizations. Example: Annual Global Funding support to: Multicultural Council of Saskatchewan Saskatchewan Organization for Heritage Languages Ukrainian Canadian Congress – SK Prov.Council Saskatchewan German Council SaskCulture’s Role

8 Each of these provincial organizations in turn supports and can provide funding to local organizations – heritage language schools, multicultural projects and initiatives, local performing arts groups, schools Funding to Provincial Cultural Organizations

9 2) Facilitate bringing people and groups together from different sectors and levels Through meetings, conferences, consultations and SaskCulture staff E.g. Dreambrokers and Music PCO’s summer camp SaskCulture’s Role

10 Support for ethno-cultural and multicultural projects and organizations E.g Multifaith Sask, SACHM –(Sask. African Canadian Heritage Museum) Multicultural Festivals – Regina Multicultural Council, Swift Current, Moose Jaw Multicultural Initiatives Fund

11 MOSAIC, Folkfest Strength in numbers Diversity of perspectives – can generate more perspectives and ideas Potential to work together in the future Benefits of Partnership

12 Takes time and patience especially when working across cultures Have to work out a common understanding and framework Diversity of views and mandates can be an obstacle Who do you partner with? Challenges in Working with Partners

13 Currently re-examining the role SaskCulture plays in multiculturalism and clarifying terms and future direction Entering a consultation process with members and interested stakeholders over the next year Multiculturalism Strategy

14 Options for initiatives to assist our members and the community could include: –Cultural awareness training programs for Provincial Cultural Organizations, members and others –Connecting First Nations and Metis organizations and people with newcomers Multiculturalism Strategy
