A hybrid car is a vehicle that basically has two engines or two sources of power. It also has a special system for capturing braking energy and storing it in a battery. The typical hybrid that is common to day is the hybrid between a gas and electric engine.
Some other examples are:
Air and internal combustion engines, a rechargeable energy source /battery, liquid nitrogen, solar, or human power.
