The first thing to do is to talk and pray with a good Christian friend Talk with your church leader and get their advice and direction 3
4
Come and have a chat to someone either at Baptist House or more locally, perhaps at one of our ‘just looking’ events. We’ll explore you going overseas and pray with you. Give one of the team a call to arrange it. 4
5
We’ll ask you to fill in some forms so we can find out more about you. We’ll use this information to match your skills with the various needs our overseas partners have. We’ll talk this through with you to explore the best location for you to serve. 5
6
We’ll ask for references from people who know you, including your church. We’ll also arrange for a medical assessment to ensure that you’re fit, both physically and psychologically, to serve cross-culturally. 6
7
You’ll then be invited to a selection event where you’ll meet with like-minded people who are exploring the possibility of overseas service. Most selection events take place at our training centre in Selly Oak, Birmingham. We will look at your spiritual life and gifts, your personality, your circumstances, your professional skills and most importantly your understanding of how God is leading you. 7
8
If selected you will have a period of training at IMC. The period of time is determined by the length of time you propose spending abroad and seeks to help you prepare for your placement overseas. The time at IMC isn’t just to obtain knowledge but to develop your character and the skills you will need – as well as to strengthen you spiritually – all in a supportive and caring environment alongside others who are travelling a similar journey to yourself. 8
