Tell me what I should know about you as a learner; how do you learn best? What do you hate to do academically and why? What is a struggle for you? What do you love to do academically and why? Describe any previous knowledge, experience, or background with Civics or Government. Are there things that might interfere with your ability to succeed in this class? Please explain. What things do you think I need to know about you in order for us to work together this year? What is the best way to contact you? In addition to reading the important information you are going to share in this email, I will be looking at your writing. Is the email appropriate for a teacher? Is it Polite? Did you proofread it to check for errors? You will be sending letters and emails to important people in this class and this is an opportunity for you to demonstrate how to write a professional email.

Writing the Perfect Paragraph.. Writing is one of the first ways to persuade others of injustice. What persuades best is a well written argument vs. an angry rant. Here’s how.. Look at the handout “Writing the Perfect Paragraph, Part I” Notice the 5 parts: #1 Question, #2 Your Answer, #3 Explanation, #4 Evidence, #5 Conclusion Split up into groups of 3-5 Find (underline, circle, whatever..) the parts in the two sample paragraphs Get the second handout and try it by yourself for homework. (for Monday)
