REVISING MATHS

It is no good JUST reading through notes, the best thing to do is to practice questions. You need to make sure that you know what the question is asking When you read a question UNDERLINE all of the key points.

Although just reading your notes isn’t the best thing to do, you should spend 10 minutes on the night after a lesson just recapping what you have done that day.

REVISION GUIDES Will give you notes, examples, worked solutions and questions for you to have a go at. If you haven’t got one we have plenty that you can buy (£4)

MY maths is a great source of lessons and revision materials. www.mymaths.co.uk Username: Hornsea Password: Circle

As a school we also belong to a group who wish for their students to achieve excellence. They have recently created a student website which has questions and solutions for each topic, walking talking mock videos and links to past papers and other websites. All of our students are now registered for this website: http://students.pixl.org.uk/home Username: hsalc-SURNAMEINITIAL Password: Hornsea

On our own school website on Moodle are the Mathswatch videos and worksheets. Again, the videos go through each topic in detail and then the worksheets are provided to get practice in these topics. T:\Mathematics\Resources\Maths Watch (Higher)\MATHSWATCH_Higher_GCSE.exe

Doing past papers is one of the best ways to improve your maths. It will highlight what areas you are weak in and so should then focus your revision around these. http://qualifications.pearson.com/en/support/support-topics/exams/past- papers.html Our exam board is Edexcel

Finally: Revise clever – There is little point in going over and doing lots of questions on the areas that you know and understand. You need to focus on the areas that you find challenging. Use all of the tools that have been shown to you tonight. Revision sessions start on 9 th March, maths sessions are a Thursday night and will alternate between 4pm-5pm the first week and 3pm to 4pm the second etc
