Introduction Biology: The Science of Our Lives Biology: The Science of Our Lives Biology literally means "the study of life". Biology literally means "the study of life".

Definition of Biology The science of life; that branch of knowledge which treats of living matter as distinct from matter which is not living; the study of living tissue. It has to do with the origin, structure, development, function, and distribution of animals and plants. The science of life; that branch of knowledge which treats of living matter as distinct from matter which is not living; the study of living tissue. It has to do with the origin, structure, development, function, and distribution of animals and plants.

Importance of biology The The biological disciplines imply a significant responsibility for the protection and the welfare of all the living species The study on the origin of diseases and plagues is also answerable by means of Biology, for example the etiology of cancer, infections, functional problems, the damage to fruits, the pathologies of farm animals, plants, trees, etc The food that we consume are materials produced by living beings, the Biology studies the living beings and the processes implied in the production of those nutritional substances. The Biology covers the study of all the living beings and their interactions into the biosphere.

WHAT IS LIFE? The interaction of charged particles, electrons and protons, through uncharged particles, expressly through photons, determines the positions and momentums of the energy during the performance of the Proton Motive Force The interaction of charged particles, electrons and protons, through uncharged particles, expressly through photons, determines the positions and momentums of the energy during the performance of the Proton Motive Force

Characteristics of living things Living things have a variety of common characteristics OrganizationHomeostasisAdaptation Reproduction and heredity Growth and development Energy acquisition and release Detection and response to stimuli Interactions

Levels of Organization Biosphere: The sum of all living things taken in conjunction with their environment Biosphere: The sum of all living things taken in conjunction with their environment Biosphere Ecosystem: The relationships of a smaller groups of organisms with each other and their environment. Ecosystem: The relationships of a smaller groups of organisms with each other and their environment. Community: The relationships between groups of different species. Community: The relationships between groups of different species. Community Species: Groups of similar individuals who tend to mate and produce viable, fertile offspring. Species: Groups of similar individuals who tend to mate and produce viable, fertile offspring. Populations: Groups of similar individuals who tend to mate with each other in a limited geographic area.
