DESCRIPTION Veneto is one of the twenty regions of Italy. It is in the North- East and it borders on Austria to the North; Friuli Venezia Giulia to the North-East; Emilia Romagna to the South; Lombardia to the West; and to the East there is the Adriatic sea.

THE TERRITORY The territory is divided among the following provinces: Venice (the capital of the region); Verona; Padua; Vicenza; Treviso; Rovigo and Belluno.

THE NAME OF THIS REGION The name of this region derives from the one its old inhabitants, the veneti, who arrived in the prehistoric period chasing the native Euganei people. VENETO’S TOURIST POINT From the tourist point of view the Veneto offers a great variety of options: besides, the well known and popular Venice, other famous places are Cortina d’Ampezzo, the famous seaside resorts of Jesolo, Chioggia and Lido di Venezia, the thermal centre of Abano Terme, and other historical cities such as Verona, Vicenza, Treviso and Padua. FOOD AND WINES The cuisine of our region is varied thanks to its geographical position: in fact we can find both mountain dishes and sea dishes, based on fish. Other important dishes are: polenta, spaghetti, risotto with different vegetables, gnocchi, the eel, the “sardelle in saor” (sardines with onions), and codfish. Some typical dessert and cakes are “pandoro veronese” and “tiramisù”. The most famous wines are : Merlot, Cabernet, Recioto and Valpolicella.

SOME PLACES Some places: Bassano del Grappa is one of the famous cities of the Veneto for its “alpin bridge” by Andrea Palladio; Jesolo is known its 15km long beach, hotels and for the nightlife.
