3 The Midbrain Between the hindbrain and the midbrain lies the pons. This word translated means “bridge”. The job of the pons is to transmit messages between the hindbrain and the forebrain. 4 The Forebrain The forebrain is what fills most of the human skull. Its size and highly folded structure allow humans to do things no other organism can do.
