Craniometric analysis of the modern Cretan population การวิเคราะห์การวัด กะโหลกศีรษะของ ประชากร Cretan ใน ปัจจุบัน
2
2 The existence of sexual dimorphism in human skeletons and its importance in medicolegal investigation has long been acknowledged. Skeletal morphological observations are easier to make but difficult to judge.
3
3 Cranial characteristics of modern Greek have not been well studied. The purpose of the study is to develop a sex determination technique using osteometric data from remains exhumed from two contemporary Cretan cemeteries in Heraklion, Crete.
4
4 Materials and methods The skeletal selected from cemeteries of St.Konstantions and Pateles,Heraklion,Crete. A total of 178 well- presered, adult skull 90 males and 88 females. Sixteen dimensions.

21 In order to test the efficacy of the equation deriving from modern Cretans. This measurement is available in 46 of 126 Helladic crania and correct group membership is found as follows: 83% for females, 64.3% for females and 71 7% in total. Classification results yield about 10% less than in the original sample. Bizygomatic breadth

23 Accurate determination of sex from the human skull is of great importance in anthropologic and forensic investigations. A recent study evaluating standard methods used for North American Whites concluded that they can be applied only partially in modern Greeks.

24 Giles and Elliot:who studied 408 American Black and White cranial of know sex and found cranial 3 dimension accuracy 85.5% Hanihara:studied Japanese skull and found 89.7% accuracy. Iscan and co- workers:found accuracy of 84.1% (cranium and mandible) and 83.7%(cranium only)
25
25 Iscan and Steyn:106 South African White crania and 90 Shouth African Black crania, taking 13 standard cranial measurements. Correct group from 86.7% - 97.8% for Males and from 81.1% - 95.8% for Females.
26
26 Sexual dimorphism in Cretans is well reflected in cranial dimensions. Further research may provide additional standards for Cretans and Greeks and hopefully will be applicable to other Mediterranean and Balkan populations.
