6 NOVEMBER-DECEMBER Your college applications should be complete by Nov. 1 to maximize your chances for admission, housing and scholarships. Request recommendations from teachers or counselors only if required by the college or scholarship. Submit a detailed resume to them and allow at least a week for the teacher or counselor to write your letter. If eligible, register for Spring Dual Enrollment. Make sure you have all the qualifying scores and have attended or will attend a mandatory advising session. Dual Enrollment ends when you graduate from high school. Plan to complete your first semester with great grades so you can qualify for Bright Futures scholarships and other available scholarships. Apply for Bright Futures Scholarships after December 1. Listen to announcements for Bright Futures workshops during the week of exams. Go to the website www.floridastudentfinancialaid.org for complete information.www.floridastudentfinancialaid.org Study hard for exams and earn great grades!

7 January Apply for financial aid on January 2. Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid online at www.fafsa.ed.gov. You will need to provide your parent’s tax information. Do not delay! Even while in college you will need to file a FAFSA every year to continue receiving scholarships and financial aid.www.fafsa.ed.gov Retest for ACT or SAT if you need higher scores to qualify for scholarships. February-March-April Focus on grades and academics. Qualify for scholarships, Bright Futures scholarship. Remember: though you may have been already accepted to a college, they can rescind if your grades are not good. Continue to apply for scholarships! Prepare for your AP and AICE exams! Passing an exam may save you time and money! Check FAFSA results! Contact your college Financial Aid Office regarding questions about financial aid and payment options. Discuss college award letters with your parents/guardian. Award letters explain the cost of attending a college that you have been accepted to.

8 May  Notify your counselor if you do not plan to participate in the graduation ceremony  Notify the college you will attend by May 1rst. Notify other colleges that accepted you that you will not be attending their school.  Clear all obligations! Seniors do not graduate with unpaid obligations.  Check your attendance with each teacher and prepare for semester 2 exams.  Attend Senior Check-out and all Senior activities. It is your responsibility to understand all rules regarding activities.  Graduate! Free final transcript available mid-June. Send your transcripts to the school you are applying to. See our Guidance office to have your transcript sent.

10  Challenging classes/emphasis is rigor of coursework  Grades that represent strong effort and upward trend  Solid scores on standardized tests SAT/ACT  Involvement, leadership and initiative  Service showing evidence of being a contibutor  Work or out of school experience  A well written essay  Letters of recommendation (when needed) that show integrity, values, goals…  Anything special that helps the student stand out!

12  Get applications in the media center  Check for other scholarships on the web  Complete all information on applications in a timely manner. Watch for deadlines!  Never pay $$$ for any scholarship offer.  It is your responsibility to look for scholarships and opportunities!  Check scholarship folder in your English/econ/gov class.  If you need a counselor input, leave enough time for deadlines so that the counselor has time to complete what you need.

Free Application for Federal Student Aid  Does it cost to apply for financial aid?  When should I apply for the FAFSA?  Do I have to apply even if I may not need it?  Do I have to apply every year?

15  Only Non-profit service is accepted!!!!  Drop off in Guidance, no need to see your counselor just to submit hours.  Official letter is accepted.  Description of work, phone number and legible writing is needed  Ask your teacher if they need help in exchange for service hours.
