Possessive Nouns and Pronouns show… OWNERSHIP

Singular and plural nouns will show ownership in different ways.

For Single Nouns: add an apostrophe at the end and follow it with an S. Child ’s

For Plural Nouns that end in S: only add an apostrophe at the end Friends ’ bikes

For Plural Nouns that do not end in an S: add an apostrophe at the end followed by an S Children ’s

Look at the following phrases and determine how they can be made to show ownership.

The cord of the mouse the mouse’s cord

The branches of the tree the tree’s branches

The taste of the pizza the pizza’s taste

The sculptures found in a museum the museum’s sculptures

The strength of the weight lifter the weightlifter’s strength

The temperature of the oven The oven’s temperature

The ball of the child the child’s ball

The noise from the engines The engines’ noises

Possessive Pronouns are specific and do not always add an S
