DoHA NTS Project The Specialist Trainees in Synthetic Training Environments project Aims: To promote specialist training in synthetic learning environments, particularly development of non-technical skills (NTS) relevant to accredited specialist training. National Health Workforce Taskforce COAG has agreed to an investment of $96m in clinical training in Simulated Learning Environments (SLEs) NHWT will develop a national strategy to complement and maximise existing effort and investment Stage 1: Australia wide mapping of the current SLE programs and planned future programs. This will include an assessment of ‘SLE readiness’ of particular sites. Stage 2: Development and establishment of new centres and programs and the re-development of some existing environments. 11

National Health Workforce Taskforce NHWT has established the Simulated Learning Environments Expert Reference Group Membership includes: Commonwealth Government, State & Territory Governments, universities and private and not-for-profit health centre providers ASSH representatives: Leonie Watterson Michelle Kelly Brendan Flanagan 12

Next 12 months We are on the verge of of a very exciting phase with the prospect of significant investment in simulation at a national level. ASSH will seek some seed funding from the govt. in order to continue to grow and prosper as an important peak body within the simulation industry. 18

Next 12 months The growth and importance of SimTecT Health Simulation conference will continue and the goal of ASSH is to become a self- sufficient entity. 19

Next 12 months SIAA Professional Development Certification program ASSH has established a sub-committee to advance the SIAA program into healthcare. Invited members are: 1.Harry Owen – Flinders University, SA 2.Jennifer Keast – Monash University, VIC 3.Dylan Campher – QH Skills Development Centre 4.Peter Watts – Wellington Hospital, NZ 5.Shane Garrett – SIAA Christopher Churchouse – Edith Cowan University WA & ASSH Executive Committee 21

Next 12 months Key bodies of work: 1. A professional development and certification program for personnel working in SLEs focusing on two groups: instructors and technical staff 2. A guide to career pathways and qualifications aimed to assist personnel seeking a career in simulation learning 3. An accreditation program for providers of simulation training 22

Next 12 months Another important body of work: Certification of simulation programs - CateMcIntosh working with SSH. Certification of simulation instructors – Katie Walker working with SSH. Can these be implemented in Australia? 23
