Once glucose is split in glycolysis, each subsequent step produces double the amount of products. It costs an ATP to pump reduced NAD from the cytoplasm into mitochondria. Each reduced NAD releases enough energy by the electron transport chain to produce 3 ATPs. Each reduced FAD releases enough energy by the electron transport chain to produce 2 ATPs. How many ATPs are produced by aerobic respiration per glucose?

Here are some facts about ATP and the human body. The formula mass of ATP is 503. There is approximately 10g of ATP in the human body. 1 mole of ATP releases 30KJ when it is hydrolysed. An average adult male uses 10,000 KJ per day. 1 mole of a substance is its formula mass in grams. If ATP was a molecule that could only be used once, what mass would an average male need each day? Since ATP is recycled, how many times would an average ATP molecule be converted back each day?
