Training required Bachelor’s or master’s degree is preferred in hospitality and hotel management If not coming from such a college background then, experience working at a hotel is required Bachelor’s degree in business, hotel, or hospitality management for management trainee positions

Continued Liberal arts degree coupled with experience in the hospitality field may be sufficient Hotels with fewer services- applicants with an associates degree or certificate in hotel, restaurant, or hospitality management along with experience

Employment In 2008, 59,000 jobs were held in this field However, the outlook is slower than average The competition for these jobs is very high

Earning Median annual wages- $45,800 Middle 50%- $35,000- $63,000 Lowest- less than $28,000 Highest- greater than $84,000

Positives May earn bonuses up to 25% of their annual salary Also may be furnished with meals, parking, laundry, and other services Some hotels even offer profit-sharing plans and educational assistance to their employees

Negatives It very difficult to find a job in this field Even if a position is available it is very competitive to attain the job
