Life in the Puritan Community A view of the daily life and philosophy of the Puritans
3
The Puritans believed that playing games or having "fun" was a sin and they acted accordingly. Only a life of hard work and study of the Bible was acceptable.
4
The Puritans believed in simplicity in both attire and religious ceremony.
5
Artwork such as these church windows were absolutely prohibited!
6
In this society, any infraction that might be considered a sin was also a crime and therefore, justice must be served.
7
So let me ask you a few questions... Are you ready?
8
Have you ever... played cards? laughed on a Sunday? disobeyed your parents? or my favorite...
9
sworn at a person or animal?
10
If you had, and you lived in the Massachusettes Bay Colony, the authorities would arrest you! You are going to jail! (The Devil made you do it!)
11
Enough from me; now it's your turn...
