While I’m Writing: I re-read the prompt from time to time to make sure I’m answering the question. I check my graphic organizer to make sure I’m on track. My introduction uses words from the prompt and begins to answer the question

In the story Soup the author describes the bad behavior of Albert Yeganeh. The reason why he acts in the manner he does is that he is insecure and has an intense need to keep control of everything around him. He also has an inflated ego and insists that his business be better than every one of his competitors so he can brag about how great he is at making soup. Albert Yeganeh is an insecure person who needs to control everything around him and this leads to his bad behavior. In the text he wants to control everyone from his workers to the customers that come in off the street to order his soup. He threatens his workers with jail if they do not follow his kitchen procedures and even fired someone for leaving a mushroom on the floor. The way he acts toward these employees is evidence that he needs to feel like he is in total control of his work place and if anyone goes against his rules he goes out of his way to punish them. Another way that Albert shows he needs to be control is the way he treats his customers. He has a sign flashing in front of his store that tells everyone what soups are available and exactly how to act when ordering. It states “…Pick the soup of your choice…Move to your extreme …Left after ordering…” When one of his customers did not follow his directions he was very rude to her, told her she talked too much, and yelled “Next” instead of taking her order. This is yet another example of Albert’s need for control and the terrible behavior that results when he feels that this control is threatened. It is my belief that people like Albert, who are unsure of themselves often need to feel be in control. I remember a girl in my third grade class who always had to run all the games at recess. If she was not in charge she would have a fit and refuse to play with us. Although I did not realize it at the time, I believe she had the same problem as Albert. She was probably an insecure person who needed to be in control and when not given that control she would act out. Another reason Albert acts he way he does is that he has a huge ego and thinks he is better than everyone else. Especially those in the soup business! This type of behavior is cruel and reflects the insecurity of a man who cant stand not being in control at all times. Another
