RDW Process Read, Draw, Write
2
Read, Write, Draw (RDW) RDW is a suggested method of instructional delivery. Mathematicians and teachers suggest a simple process applicable to all grades. RDW is a four step problem-solving process that supports students through both visual and kinesthetic accommodations. The RDW strategy allows students to closely read and unpack the problem to develop a deeper understanding of the mathematical concepts.

Application- Read, Draw, Write (RDW)
Mathematicians and teachers suggest a simple process applicable to all grades: 1) Read. 2) Draw and Label. 3) Write a number sentence. (equation) 4) Write a word sentence. (statement) MP1 MP2

MP1 MP2 Make sense of problems and persevere in solving them
Reason abstractly and quantitatively.

Application- Read, Draw, Write (RDW)
Module 1 Overview Application- Read, Draw, Write (RDW) The more students participate in reasoning through problems with a systematic approach, the more they internalize those behaviors and thought processes. What do I see? Can I draw something? What conclusions can I make from my drawing? Modeling with Interactive Questions Guided Practice Independent Practice

Solving a Problem Using RDW
Samantha is helping the teacher organize the pencils in her classroom for the teacher. She finds 41 yellow pencils and 29 blue pencils. She threw away 12 that were too short. How many pencils are left in all?
