3 Benchmark 1 Trends Most students, 1 st -8 th grade, proficient or above Areas of strength –All aspects of Number Sense Focus areas: –Explain mathematical thinking Word sentences and problems (1-3) Multi-step problems and word problems (4-8) –Explain thinking in variety of ways (4-5) –Multiplication/Division of fractions (6) –Writing expressions from verbal description (7) –Linear equations and inequalities (8) –Complex operations Multi-digit Multiplication and division (4) Prime factors (5) Order of operations (6-8)

4 Changes as Result of Data Overall: –Deeper data analysis, CST and Benchmark Selection of target students Clear next steps based on data Tracking of next steps and student progress and adjusting –Continued principal PD on structuring data conversations and effective data analysis –Use of SuccessMaker at all sites for targeted intervention with selected students

5 Changes as Result of Data Overall: –Expansion of District Math Committee to include middle school Deeper and detailed articulation between elementary and middle school –Use of Number Talks with Math Grant Selected K-8 teachers In conjunction with other districts –Expansion of Curriculum Leadership Council (CLC) at County Office Selected K-8 teachers, trained as teacher leaders Focused on California Common Core Standards (CCCS)

6 Changes as Result of Data Elementary: –Two Math PD afternoons January: Understanding CCCS April: MARS assessments: Using data to design reteach and re-engagement lessons in prep for CST –SuccessMaker for targeted Math intervention primarily after school. Expansion of use during school day –Pilot of Investigations curriculum, five 5 th grade teachers –Expanded use of Envision Problems of the Week and review and reteach of MARS Benchmark tasks

7 Changes as Result of Data Middle School: –Targeted student support FLASH 1, Launched October 17 –Students scoring Below Basic and Far Below Basic, including key subgroups –SuccessMaker before/after school FLASH 2, Launched late October – Identified Basic students, including key subgroups –SuccessMaker before/after school FLASH 3, Launched January 3 –7 th and 8 th graders scoring Proficient in Math/Algebra –Distant learning opportunity with SuccessMaker

8 Changes as Result of Data Middle School: –School wide focus on targeted students All staff aware of selected students Regular agenda item for all department and staff meetings Benchmark data reflection during last CIA day –Reviewed data, developed critical questions prompted by data –Math, ELA, Social Studies, Science, Electives and PE each developed action plan to support students

9 Moving Forward Continued implementation of SuccessMaker for targeted interventions in Math, expanded use of reports Close tracking of targeted student progress, development of next steps Review of Benchmark 2 data, next steps as a result Math PD with core curriculum, elementary Develop grade level systems to reteach, review, and extend skills based on end of unit assessments
