3 Timetables/Daily Routines: Children enter via the door near Junior ICT suite Children taken to the office if they are late. End of day – 10 minutes outside with teacher, then late book, collect from office After school clubs – collect from office Lunchtime clubs – Homework club, Choir, Year 6 clubs

4 Break times: Morning playtime is at 10.30-10.45. Children can go to the studio to buy drinks and healthy snacks or toast. Children should not take food from lunchboxes at playtimes. Equipment is provided in all playgrounds for children to play with and the climbing frame and tyre park (KS2) are on a rota basis. There is NO FOOTBALL allowed.

5 Uniform: Grey or black skirt/trousers White shirts/polo tops – school logo Burgundy sweatshirts/jumpers – school logo Black sensible shoes Suitable winter coat – school fleece especially on swimming and fields days. ALL NAMED PLEASE!

6 P.E. Navy shorts or track suit bottoms White t-shirt (with House colour edging) Lightweight pumps must be worn for apparatus work Trainers can be worn for outdoor games No jewellery or watches Long hair tied back Days – Wednesday (4W), Thursday (4E), Friday (4S) Field day – Tuesday Parent helpers for the fields, please let class teachers know if you are free on a Tuesday afternoon from now until half term or after February half term.

7 Swimming: Year 4 start Thursday, 17 th September 4S and 4W will swim first One piece costume for girls Proper trunks (not baggy!) for boys Swimming caps for all children (long hair tied up) Towel Bag Goggles allowed

8 Autumn Term: Literacy – Information text, Poetry, Stories In Imaginary Worlds. Maths - Varied topics following the National Curriculum (Abacus Evolve Scheme) Topic - Ancient Greeks (Geography and History based)

9 Spring Term: Literacy – Persuasive text, Stories with Historical settings and Playscripts Maths - Following the National Curriculum. Topic – Romans Roman project

10 Summer Term Literacy – Explanation Texts, Poetry and Newspaper reports. Maths – Following the National Curriculum. Topic – Battle of Britain

15 Groups Sets for Maths, Literacy Skills and Spellings. Mixed ability groupings for Topic and other work where appropriate. Ability groupings for Writing and Reading.

16 Reading All children bring book bags in every day Two books: Reading Book (structured until a fluent reader) and Choice book All children have a Reading Diary in which to record reading Please do not put water bottles in book bags! Reading Pamphlets given to parents in Reception and Year 3 with more guidance for supporting reading.

17 Learning Beyond the Classroom: How can I help my child? Encouraging use of language and listening to language e.g. story tapes, adult reading aloud, reading a range of texts. Using mathematical skills in real life situations e.g. using money, telling the time, baking, reading timetables, board games and using MyMaths.

19 Homework Maths – Arranged with Maths teachers. Spellings – Differentiated lists set, to be tested on the following Monday. Reading – Books sent home. Please encourage children to read daily. Topic – Occasional tasks given.

20 Helping in School We welcome any parent helpers in year 4. Many parents come to help in school with Reading Literacy Volunteers Sewing Enrichment activities. If helpers are coming in regularly we will need to make arrangements for them to be DBS checked through the school, even if already DBS checked somewhere else. All helpers or visitors should come through main School office and be signed in officially.

31 On-site Security Every adult on site is issued with a security pass. All accommodation blocks are locked every night. First Aid Centre with qualified First Aiders available 24 hours a day. All members of staff hold a current DBS. SECURITY PASS VISITING TEACHER Please ensure that you wear your Security Pass clearly displayed at all times

32 Activity Instructors The instructors are fully qualified and trained to deliver each activity. As well as safety and security on session, instructors have also received training in soft skills and pastoral care. The instructors hold nationally recognised qualifications known as NGB Awards. The Instructors are required to pass and attend regular retraining and assessment courses throughout their time at Kingswood.

39 Points of Note… Bring old, comfortable clothes that can get muddy and wet. All clothes, shoes, bags, belongings of any kind must be named. Please do not bring valuables of any kind. No mobile phones or MP3 players. No aerosol deodorants You may bring a small amount of pocket money for the souvenir shop. Healthy food is promoted by the centre. Juice breaks are provided throughout the day, and provisions made for children with special dietary requirements.
