Standards Based Education An attempt to develop clear, measurable descriptions of what learners should know and be able to do as a result of education Performance standards – level of proficiency Content Standards – what is to be taught Why? Who decides? High stakes testing?

A Changed Population of Learners 25% in California are LEP Should we teach in languages other than English? Multicultural in curriculum? replacing what? Full inclusion? Behavior problems? Is increased achievement compatible?
