1  Describe Mme. Loisel’s character at the beginning of the story  Why do you think she acts this way?  What is her motivation for borrowing the necklace?

3  In science, you are learning about friction  What is static friction?  Static friction is… “The friction that acts on objects that are not moving ”

4  Static refers to a character’s personality traits and motivations  Think of what static friction is and come up with a definition for static characters  Brainstorm with your partner  Any ideas???

5  Static Characters do not change throughout the course of the story.  They have the same traits and motivations from beginning to end

6  Does anyone play an instrument?  What are dynamics?  Dynamics change the way the piece is played. They tell you whether to play louder or softer.

7  Listen to the following clip  Can you hear the dynamics?  This is definitely not a static piece of music. Yuja Wang

8  Dynamic refers to a character’s personality traits and motivations  Think of what dynamics are in music and come up with a definition for dynamic characters.  Brainstorm with your partner.  Any ideas???

9  Dynamic Characters change throughout the course of a story  They display different character traits and motivations from beginning to end

10  Watch the following two video clips from Remember the Titans  Does Julius change or stay the same?  Is he static or dynamic?  Be ready to provide proof!

14  Think about Mme. Loisel’s character traits and motivations in the beginning of the story.  Do they…stay the same? Change?  Is Mme. Loisel a static or dynamic character?
