Metaphors
2
What is a metaphor?
3
Why use metaphors? Think about describing a family. Which conjures up more meaning and feeling – She is a good person in a family with poor moral values. – OR – She is a rose in a sea of thorns. In both sentences we get that she is a good person and her family members are not, but the metaphor paints a vivid picture of making it more meaningful.
4
Your hear metaphors all the time.
5
What metaphors were in that song? What did they mean? Like a small boat on the ocean, sending big waves into motion. – Something small can make something big happen. Like how a single word, can make a heart open. – Again, something small can make something big happen. And all those things I didn’t say, wrecking balls inside my brain. – The feelings she held inside and never told anyone are tearing her up inside.
7
“God’s the seamstress” What does he mean? – A seamstress is a person who sews clothing. They take material, cut it, and tailor it into clothing. – He is saying God is the one who has chosen what things happened in his life.
9
What “She walks like a model, she grants my wishes like a geni in a bottle.” What does he mean? – She is beautiful or perfect like we see models. – She does things to make him happy.
