2  A procedure which uses the technique of deleting words from a passage according to a word count formula  After the passage is presented to the class, students insert words in the blanks of familiar language patterns.

3 1. Select a self-contained passage of length appropriate for the grade level of students being assessed. 2. Leave the first and last sentence in tact with all punctuation. 3. Use a word-count formula to select words of omission.
