Building Emergencies & Evacuations When You Hear a Building Alarm ALWAYS evacuate the building Leave by the Nearest Safe Exit Go to the outdoor assembly area (Lawn by main entrance) If You are Informed of an Alarm See above The Building Manager is the LEC Local Emergency Coordinator – Sal Marino Alternates: Ron Gill, Mike Zarcone Information is Posted In hallways On our web sites

Walking Injuries Lost Time Injury Due to Broken Ankle Lost balance and fell Contributing factors: surface conditions & footwear Surface Conditions Be aware of where you are walking - Familiar path Slippery or uneven surfaces - Weather conditions - Unfamiliar path Footwear Suitable for conditions Suitable for amount and places you will walk Carrying Objects – Weight and Bulk Reduces balance, changes center of gravity Block view of where you are stepping

Injury Reduction – Zero Injuries BNL, DOE and Physics Department Goal Who is Responsible for Reducing Injuries? Each of us – our own personal safety All of us – look out for conditions that may impact others Largest Contributing Factor to Injuries? Belief that you can’t or won’t be hurt What Can You Do? Before each activity, ask yourself - What personal protective equipment (PPE) should I use? - What is the worst thing that can go wrong? - What is the most likely injury while doing this job? - What have I done to prevent the above from happening? - Proper PPE? Following procedures? Attitude/alertness? - Is there a better or safer way to do this? - If there is tell someone – feedback!
