1 Regular Comparatives in adjectives Comparatives are used to compare people, places, things or actions. “He's taller than them” “ They are shorter than him” It always goes “than” after the comparative:

2 RULES RULE 1. One syllable adjectives add -ER. “Travelling by bus is cheaper than travelling by plane”

3 RULES RULE 2. If the adjective finishes in a consonant+vowel + consonant, double final consonant+ -ER “Australia is bigger than Europe”

4 RULES RULE 3. One or Two-syllable adj. ending in consonant+“y”=i “ Eating fruit is healthier than eating meat ”

5 RULES RULE 4. 2 Syllable adjectives not ending in -y use “more”. “Working is more boring than playing games”

6 RULES RULE 5. Two or more syllable adjectives use “MORE” before the adjective: “ Travelling by plane is more expensive than travelling by bus ”
