Repent, and believe in the gospel.” What is “gospel” about His message? (Rom 1:16 NKJV) For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek. (Mark 1:16 NKJV) And as He walked by the Sea of Galilee, He saw Simon and Andrew his brother casting a net into the sea; for they were fishermen. (Mark 1:17 NKJV) Then Jesus said to them, “Follow Me, and I will make you become fishers of men.” (Mark 1:18 NKJV) They immediately left their nets and followed Him. And looking at Jesus as He walked, he said, “Behold the Lamb of God!” The two disciples heard him speak, and they followed Jesus. … (John 1:40 NKJV) One of the two who heard John speak, and followed Him, was Andrew, Simon Peter's brother. (John 1:41 NKJV) He first found his own brother Simon, and said to him, “We have found the Messiah” (which is translated, the Christ). Selected first disciples (Cont’d) E-04

www.budakylecofc.org Slide 7 Jesus called James and John. (Mark 1:19 NKJV) When He had gone a little farther from there, He saw James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, who also were in the boat mending their nets. (Mark 10:28 NKJV) Then Peter began to say to Him, “See, we have left all and followed You.” Selected first disciples (Cont’d) E-04

www.budakylecofc.org Slide 10 Do we have to leave “all” to follow Jesus? (Mat 10:37 NKJV) “He who loves father or mother more than Me is not worthy of Me. And he who loves son or daughter more than Me is not worthy of Me. (Luke 14:26 NKJV) “If anyone comes to Me and does not hate his father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters, yes, and his own life also, he cannot be My disciple. Selected first disciples (Cont’d) E-04

www.budakylecofc.org Slide 11 What is a part of accepting the “call”? (Mark 1:17 NKJV) Then Jesus said to them, “Follow Me, and I will make you become fishers of men.” Is it possible to be “in the calling” and not repeat “the call”? (Acts 4:20 NKJV) “For we cannot but speak the things which we have seen and heard.” Selected first disciples (Cont’d) E-04

www.budakylecofc.org Slide 12 Selected first disciples (Cont’d) E-04 From this encounter we see: We must commit all to Christ; the things we keep, we must “keep in their place” of lower priority. If we are not busy repeating “the call,” we should seriously question whether or not we are “in the calling.”
