Sing Aloud! ♫ What could possibly cause the Israelites to rejoice? ♪Zephaniah prophesied during the reign of Josiah, a king who “did what was right in the eyes of the LORD” (2 Ki 22:2, ESV).

He walked in all the way in which his father walked and served the idols that his father served and worshiped them. He abandoned the LORD, the God of his fathers, and did not walk in the way of the LORD” (2 Ki 21:20-22, ESV).

Sing Aloud! ♫ Manasseh “did what was evil in the sight of the L ORD, according to the despicable practices of the nations whom the L ORD drove out before the people of Israel. For he rebuilt the high places that Hezekiah his father had destroyed, and he erected altars for Baal and made an Asherah, as Ahab king of Israel had done, and worshiped all the host of heaven and served them. And he built altars in the house of the L ORD, of which the L ORD had said, ‘In Jerusalem will I put my name.’ And he built altars for all the host of heaven in the two courts of the house of the L ORD. And he burned his son as an offering and used fortune-telling and omens and dealt with mediums and with necromancers. He did much evil in the sight of the L ORD, provoking him to anger. And the carved image of Asherah that he had made he set in the house of which the L ORD said to David and to Solomon his son, ‘In this house, and in Jerusalem, which I have chosen out of all the tribes of Israel, I will put my name forever. And I will not cause the feet of Israel to wander anymore out of the land that I gave to their fathers, if only they will be careful to do according to all that I have commanded them, and according to all the Law that my servant Moses commanded them.’ But they did not listen, and Manasseh led them astray to do more evil than the nations had done whom the L ORD destroyed before the people of Israel” (2 Ki 21:2-9, ESV).

Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and eat with him, and he with me. The one who conquers, I will grant him to sit with me on my throne, as I also conquered and sat down with my Father on his throne” (Rev 3:19-21, ESV).

For I know the plans I have for you, declares the L ORD, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope. Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will hear you. You will seek me and find me, when you seek me with all your heart. During that siege, “the famine was so severe in the city that there was no food for the people of the land” (2 Ki 25:3, ESV).

By his cunning he shall make deceit prosper under his hand, and in his own mind he shall become great. Without warning he shall destroy many” (Dan 8:24-25, ESV).

He then says, “Fear not, therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows” (Mt 10:31, ESV). ♫ How could the disciples not be afraid in the face of persecution? ♪“Do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul” (Mt 10:28, ESV). ♪Those whom the disciples faced could not take their souls. ♫ What a glorious message! ♪We might face much in this life. ♪But, our souls cannot be touched! As long as we abide in Jesus, our souls are safe with him. “I give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand. My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all, and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father’s hand” (Jn 10:28-29, ESV).
