Leadership is influence. Leadership is the process by which an individual exerts influence on group members in order to achieve the group ʼ s goals. INFLUENCE ON PEOPLE

Leaders influence in creating a vision Lays out a direction for action and a vision Creates strategic plans for achieving the vision Passionately (fired up), speaks about the vision and goals in personnel management Unifies the group (organisation) Communicates the vision, mission and direction for action Exerts influence creating coalitions, teams and partnership Shows initiative, is emotional Creates conditions for choosing in implementing the vision Motivates and inspires Encourages group members to overcome difficulties and to change Satisfies the main needs of people Takes risky decisionsin achieving the vision Encourages useful and large changes, such as new goods or attitudes, which can help to improve relationships (for example, between employees and employers)

Influence and strength Strength: the leader ʼ s ability to change others ʼ attitudes and behaviour in the desired direction. Influence: the use of this strength. Influence is not effective, if the desired result is not achieved. Strength is what we have or what we seek: position, knowledge, recognition, status. Influence: what we do with that strength, how we use it. Influence is not effective, if the desired result is not achieved.

The leader’s main characteristics Four personal qualities that are characteristic of charismatic leaders: the inclination to dominate (need for power) the desire to exert influence on others especially great self-confidence the firm belief in the rightness of one ʼ s own values and ideals

Be a Leader: How to Change People without Giving Offense or Arousing Resentment Begin with praise and honest appreciation. Call attention to people's mistakes indirectly. Talk about your own mistakes before criticizing the other person. Ask questions instead of giving direct orders. Let the other person save face.
