‘Accept’ is totally different to ‘except’. Learn what they mean and when to use them. America refused to accept the Versailles Treaty. I accept that Peter Whittingham had to go off before half time at the game on Saturday. Accept is a verb – it means to agree with something or to receive something.

I love all sports except cricket and golf. Everyone’s DNA is unique except the DNA of identical twins and clones. ‘Except’ means not including.

Affect is a verb – one thing affects or influences another. Effect is a noun – Something can have knock on effects/results/consequences.

Effect can also be used as a verb, meaning to put into effect/to cause/achieve/to bring about. - The best way to effect change is to work with existing stakeholders. - You will effect these changes on Monday.

Are is a present tense form of the verb ‘to be’. ‘Our’ means belonging to us.

Hour means 60 minutes. There are 24 hours in a day and 168 hours in a week. Don’t get hour and our confused.
