1. 2014 Carroll County Envirothon 5 th Issue Scenario Sustainable/Locally Grown Agriculture

Scenario Details: -Each group will act as an agricultural consulting firm that has been asked to present a 5-year plan for a 33 acre farm that will produce the greatest possible economic, environmental, and social benefits Each Plan MUST Address these key topics: 1)3 Pillars of sustainable ag: Profit, Stewardship, Quality of Life 2) Ecosystem functions and services, especially soil health 3) Benefits of sustainable farming to soil health, water quality & quantity, biodiversity, and weed & insect management 4) The importance of local & regional food systems to sustainable ag

3. Each presentation SHOULD include these components: -5 year crop rotation plan for 5 acres of certified organic land -Land use plan for remaining 20 acres of fields/pasture -Financial plan: analysis of revenues vs. expenses -Identification & description of specific sustainable practices -Marketing strategy for the farming operation -Environmental assessment of the farm and the surrounding area.
